Day of the Dead
Today we celebrated Day of the Dead. It is a Mexican/Latin American holiday that celebrates the great lives your dead ancestors had. Not to mourn them. I think that Day of the Dead is very different than Halloween but I also think that they have many similarities.
I gained this idea because Halloween and Day of the Dead both have many skulls and treats but Halloween is about scary costumes and candy but Day of the Dead is about remembering your dead loved ones and their happy lives and giving them offerings.
I think that this effects me because in America we celebrate Halloween and eat a lot of candy and dress up in scary costumes but it doesn't really have a meaning. Meanwhile, in Mexico and Latin America they are celebrating their loved ones and remembering their nice lives. This effects me because America doesn't have a holiday that celebrates our loved ones so we don't have a special time to remember them.
This effects the greater world because since we don't have a holiday to celebrate the dead we might pass it on to other countries and then no other country will have a holiday that celebrates their dead loved ones.

Field trip to the Museum of Natural History
Today we went to the American Museum of Natural History.I thought that it was really fun. An idea I gained from going to the museum is that the Indians/Native Americans really liked decorating their clothing unlike the Neanderthals who wore just plain fur.
I think that the Indians/Native Americans decorated their clothing because they had more resources like berries to make paint and clay to make beads unlike the Neanderthals who had less plants and probably no clay because it was the Ice Age and every thing was frozen or very cold (probably to cold for most plants to grow).I came to this idea because in all the display cases of Indians/Native Americans they had tons of beads and colored fabric but in all the display cases of the Neanderthals they had plain fur.
In my opinion, this does not effect me because we the decorate our clothes a lot and we most likely would have found out how to decorate our clothes whether the Indians/Native Americans did or not.
I also think that this does not effect the greater world because we found out how to decorate our clothes and I think we would have still found out how to whether or not the Indians/Native Americans decorated their clothing.

Field trip to Pratt
Today we went to Pratt. I thought it was pretty cool. My favorite part was when they showed us the videos about the play they they put on and the little snippets of the America Reads movie. I also liked when "Michael Jackson" came on the stage and danced. Overall I thought that the presentation was pretty good.
